Amenians are Christians and have a very strong cultural connection to the Armenian Apostolic Church. According to tradition, Christianity was first introduce to this area in the 1st century AD and Armenia became the first country to establish Christianity as its state religion. After seven decades of supression under Soviet Union’s Communist Rule, the country returned to its roots. At that time (1921) the Soviet Union’s new government, sent thousands of priests into exile in Siberia and hundreds of them were killed. Armenia’s ancient church doors slammed shut, except for the sanctuaries converted to serve as Government buildings and Music Halls. Atheism was strictly enforced at the hands of KGB. Today, there is a generation of believers who lead the way, finding new faith in Christ – and its other.
